Bruce A. Scherr, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Scherr has been with
the company since 1987 and has worked extensively with companies to develop
improved price risk management procedures, to organize and manage purchasing
and merchandising programs, and to assist agribusinesses and public sector
institutions in strategic and tactical planning. Formerly, he was president of
Sparks, Jacobs, Scherr, Inc. (SJS), a sister company to Sparks Companies, Inc., and president
of Agri-Commodities, Inc., an agriculture consulting firm based in Andover,
Massachusetts, which was acquired by SJS. Prior to forming Agri-Commodities,
Dr. Scherr was a divisional vice president at Data Resources, Inc., where he
developed and utilized for the public and private sectors the first
commercially available econometric model for US agriculture. Dr. Scherr
received his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and his master's and
doctorate degrees from Purdue University, all in agricultural economics.
Currently, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of North American Electric
Reliability Council (NERC). He served as a member of the Board of Directors
for Desert STAR Inc., an electrical transmission Independent System Operator
for the Desert Southwest from January 2000 through February 2002. In addition,
Dr. Scherr has served as a member of the University of Tennessee’s (UT)
Institute of Agriculture Agricultural Development Board and UT’s Committee for
the Future. He is a member of several honorary research and agricultural
societies, a member of the National FFA Foundation Sponsors’ Board 2000
through 2001 and a former advisor to the President's Council of Economic
Advisers and National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Thomas P. Scott, President
and Chief Operating
Officer.
Mr. Scott has been with Informa
since 1989 with the majority of that time being the head of the Informa
Economics Memphis-based Project Consulting Group. Mr. Scott's specialized
work has included business strategy, agribusiness economic development,
feasibility and site selection work, as well as various market analyses. In
addition to his work in North America, Mr. Scott has extensive experience in
the agribusiness sectors of Central Europe, Southeast Asia and South
America. He has been involved in many training programs developed and
delivered by Informa Economics. Prior to joining the company, he had various
assignments in management, trading, logistics and merchandising with
Continental Grain Company. He received his bachelor's degree in agricultural
economics and business from Cornell University and a master's degree in
business administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration
at Dartmouth College where he was an Amos Tuck Scholar.
Richard S. Andersen, Executive Vice President. Dr. Andersen's
responsibilities include research, client service and consulting with Informa Economics'
livestock, meat, poultry and dairy based clients. Prior to joining Informa Economics, Dr.
Andersen was a regional extension economist for the Alberta Agriculture
Department, a livestock market analyst and policy advisor to the Alberta
Minister of Agriculture, and a research economist for Cook Industries, Inc. He
received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agriculture from the
University of Alberta and his doctorate degree in agricultural economics from
The Ohio State University.
William C. Motes, Executive Vice President. Dr.
Motes, located in Informa Economics' Washington, D.C., office, has primary
responsibilities that include client consulting for international commercial
clients and development projects. Formerly, he was a principal member of
Economic Perspectives, Inc. and served as director of policy analysis for the
Secretary of Agriculture (1979-81). Dr. Motes was associate director of USDA's
Budget and Program Evaluation Office and also was legislative assistant for
agriculture for US Senator Dick Clark. He holds degrees in agricultural
economics from Kansas State University and received his doctorate in
agricultural economics from Iowa State University.
James R. Wiesemeyer, Vice President.
From his office in Washington, DC, Mr. Wiesemeyer contributes daily to
Informa Economics' Morning Comments report, providing clients with the latest
information on agricultural policy and trade developments. Since 1978, Mr. Wiesemeyer has frequently reported on and interviewed senior government
officials, including Presidents Reagan and Carter, as well as several USDA
Secretaries; he has traveled extensively in his assignments and is a frequent
speaker on farm policy and trade issues. Prior to joining Informa Economics, Mr.
Wiesemeyer most recently was the Washington editor and bureau chief for
ProFarmer, Inc. where he still contributes a daily analysis and commentary on
policy and trade developments in his column Inside Washington Today. Also
while at ProFarmer, he was the Washington editor for Oster Communication's
ProFarmer newletter and Futures magazine. Mr. Wiesemeyer also was the
Washington bureau chief for Futures World News (FWN), formerly owned by Oster.
Prior to ProFarmer, he was a Washington editor with Doane's Agricultural
Report and Washington editor and managing editor of the Washington Farmletter.
Mr. Wiesemeyer received his bachelor of arts degree in history from Southern
Illinois University.
Scott A. Richman,
Senior Vice President. With Informa Economics since 1991, Mr.
Richman is the leader of Informa's Commercial Consulting. Among Mr.
Richman's responsibilities for services to commercial clients, he directly
manages the ethanol and biotechnology consulting practice areas. Mr. Richman
has extensive experience conducting financial feasibility studies, preparing
business plans, directing economic impact studies, constructing market
forecasts and advising companies on the positioning of products within
specialized markets. In addition to work throughout the United States and
Canada, he has participated in consulting projects in Western Europe and
Poland. Mr. Richman was selected to serve on the panel developing the North
America and Europe assessment for the International Assessment of
Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), an
intergovernmental effort cosponsored by the World Bank and other
international institutions. He received his bachelor's degree in economics
from Vanderbilt University and his master's degree in international affairs
at Columbia University, where he specialized in international business and
was an Honorary International Fellow. Rob D. Murphy,
Senior
Vice President. Dr. Murphy's duties include livestock and red meat
research, price analyses, and the design and implementation of margin risk
management systems. Much of his work focuses on methods of measuring and
mitigating price risk exposures across a variety of commodities. Prior to
joining Informa Economics, he was an economist in the research department at the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange where he was responsible for maintenance of the CME's Live
Cattle futures contract. He was involved in futures contract design issues,
particularly the use of cash settlements in agricultural futures markets. He
received his bachelor's degree in animal science and his master's degree in
agricultural economics, both from Louisiana State University, and his
doctorate in agricultural and applied economics from Virginia Tech,
Blacksburg, Virginia.
Ken A. Eriksen, Senior Vice President, Transportation.
Mr. Eriksen is responsible for
transportation research, service and consulting with the barge, rail and bulk
commodity industries. Prior to joining Informa Economics, Mr. Eriksen worked for the US
Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service as an
agricultural statistician. In that capacity, he conducted national surveys and
set national estimates on chemical use in agriculture, oversaw the genetically
modified organism and biotechnology NASS data, and released the annual Pest
Management Practices report for the Integrated Pest Management program. Also
while at USDA, he worked for the Agricultural Marketing Service on its
transportation and marketing program, conducting research and analysis on
domestic and international transportation issues. Specifically, he did grain
transportation modal share analysis and analyzed the ocean freight market. Mr.
Eriksen also worked as an international longshoreman for the Pacific Maritime
Association in Tacoma, Washington. He received his bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in agribusiness and agricultural economics from Washington State
University. While working on his master’s degree there, Mr. Eriksen was a
transportation economist for the Department of Agricultural Economics,
performing economic transportation data analysis and modeling.
